Working across the border
Rates on the two sides are not comparable: roughly €9-14 an hour in Italy against roughly CHF 25-35 in the Grisons. The difference is real, and so are the obligations attached to it. Occasional babysitting for a private family in Switzerland is still work, and above certain thresholds it involves social insurance contributions that the family, as the employer, has to handle — the simplified procedures exist precisely for this. If you are resident in Italy and work in Switzerland, cross-border worker status has tax consequences that depend on where you sleep, not on where you are paid.
We are not able to advise you on your individual position, and we would be wrong to try. What we can do is say plainly that it exists, so that nobody discovers it afterwards.
What we ask of you
- Truthful information, and a photo that is actually of you
- A commitment to show your criminal record certificate — in Switzerland the special private extract — to the family, freshly issued, before the first engagement
- A commitment not to send someone else in your place
- Answering, even if the answer is no. An unanswered message is worse than a refusal.
What we do not ask of you
We never ask you to upload a criminal record certificate, and we never ask you to declare that you have no convictions: both are criminal-conviction data, and a private operator may not process them without a specific legal basis. We do not keep copies of your ID either — only the outcome of the check and its date.
