It's not a tip, and it has nothing to do with the sitters. We don't touch anyone's fee and we don't withhold a percentage from anyone signed up: that stays entirely theirs, always. This is a direct contribution to us, and it funds one thing only.

On AlpenSitter, a verification isn't an algorithm. It's a person who really writes to the two families listed as references, waits for the reply, reads it and publishes it on the profile with the date — so what you read isn't a star rating, it's the words of someone who was there. It's slow, it can't be automated.

Families pay to contact sitters. Sitters pay nothing to sign up. The verification work sits in between, and today one person alone carries it. A donation in this range doesn't buy an extra badge: it buys time, and here's exactly what changes when there's more of it.

  • Profiles get re-checked over time, not just at sign-up: a reference given a year ago isn't enough, it needs updating.
  • New valleys open with the same level of care as the first ones, instead of quickly and with fewer checks — that's the difference between a directory and work done properly.
  • The verification work can start being shared with other trusted people, instead of resting on one person's shoulders alone: it stays a small project, not a call centre.

What we don't do with this money

  • We don't pass it on to sitters. If you want to thank the person who looked after your child, do it directly with her: it's fairer and it all reaches her.
  • We don't use it to buy reviews or profiles. A profile on AlpenSitter only exists if a real person signed up.
Donations are not a payment for services and do not entitle you to any service or benefit. The button is only active once the site's administrative setup is operational: until then, we'd rather receive nothing. For any question write to alpensitter@gmail.com.
